2013 SCHEDULE

Hello to everyone! I trust you have all had a wonderful summer. We are getting to the end, and as always, I can't believe we are here already. School...What??? The nice thing I look forward to is our indian summers and our crowdless beaches come fall. And in some ways, I like the rhythm of what fall brings with it's schedules and routines again.

SO, we have been thinking and discussing teaching for months now. It has taken me awhile to decide this but I think it is truly the best fit for everyone (hoping!). I know it is for us.

I will not be teaching weekly classes this fall. BUT, I will be teaching Weekend Workshops almost every weekend. I am very excited to do this. Some of them will be just like taking a class (except it will be longer) during the week with me, and some will be like a workshop. I like the change every week. And the weekend timing is good (sorry soccer players)because of traffic (bridge is almost done!) and other school runnings during the week. I also like that you can pick and chose whatever workshop you want to take and not be obligated every single week to come (although, I would love to see you all here every week.) And one more like is, I am done scheduling everything for the rest of the year. I have all of the workshops here posted until Christmas.

All of these will be offered in my Santa Cruz studio and you might even get a peek at little Maggie if you come (happiest baby EVER!), although she will most likely be napping in the house while I am teaching. Please let me know if you have any questions. Email and phone # listed at bottom of this post.I am really looking forward to seeing you all this fall/winter!

Are Summer Workshops Happening?

It is hard to believe summer is HERE! I have been holding out on writing a post about my schedule this summer because I wanted to be sure I knew what I was talking about. I also should note that as I am writing this, I am bouncing a baby in her bouncy chair with my foot and listening to her "talk" rather loudly, and watching my boys attempt to clean their room, which isn't going so smoothly at the moment. Apparently, their system they had going isn't working and I am overhearing complaining to eachother about how one isn't pulling the weight that he should with lots of frustrated sounds...so sorry if this post doesn't all make the sense I want it to. Some people can pull off doing multiple things at one time, but not me. I am a little distracted at the moment.

Which brings me to my next point. Distracted.

Family is awesome. It is the heart of what I love most in this world. Watching my children grow makes me a bigger person.

And watching my boys with our newest person in the family pretty much breaks my heart daily. I love nothing more than to watch them love on their baby sister. They already love and care for her more than I ever thought they would. It is beautiful. And exhausting. We have a baby that we are all making room for and it is going as well as it can be, but the truth is, I am distracted. All the time. I can't really use the phone. Ever. I daydream of taking naps everyday at 3pm but I don't take them, I can't keep appointments scheduled very well. I forget about friends at times. I forget what I was saying ALL THE TIME. It's all the way it should be for this short time of infanthood, but it's caused me to be aware this summer and say, I cannot do workshops.

My role right now is being a mom. And I love every bit of it. Even the frustrated sounds I was hearing as I started this, because now they have turned into laughing and playing with eachother sounds. My foot has stopped bouncing, because my baby just fell into silent sleep. If I add anything more I think I would start to miss all the little moments I am constantly grateful for. The ones that get you through the day. I would also get frustrated and maybe even resentful that I have too much to keep up with.

My very good friend once said that this phase of parenting I am in now is "long days, short years." Isn't that great? I will never get these long days back with these guys. And really, how long do your kids actually beg to hang out with you?

I wish in many ways I could teach again this summer. But the answer is, no workshops this summer. I miss all of you and the support you give. And I love and miss watching children create in my classes. But this short time will be spent undivided with my people. It's my privledge. I love you all and wish you a wonderful summer! I will be ready to teach again this fall once everyone gets settled into their own routines, so get ready!

Painting for Sale! Painting for Sale! Come Buy This Painting!

24 little people helped make this project and it is being sold THIS Friday (as in the day after tomorrow!)at the Delaveaga School Auction. With the exception of the canvas and some of the paint used, it is made of recycled materials. The tree trunk was made out of a grocerey bag, the leaves were made out of fabric scraps, and the frame was made out of old apple tree props from my great grandfather's apple orchard in Watsonville. Many hands were put into this work and 100% of the money goes directly into supporting their school fundraising for Art, Music, P.E. etc. Obviously,it goes to a great cause. Support public schools by buying great art! Delaveaga School Carnival is from 4pm-8pm and the silent auction will be ongoing during those hours. Hope to see you there!

Look What the Stork Brought Us

On April 10th, at 4:10am a beautiful baby girl was added to our family. It was truly the biggest surprise in my life. Margaret Quinn Ellison. "Maggie" was named after my great aunt (sister to my grandmother who I named Blue Apple Studios after) who is 94 and is the coolest person I have ever met.It has been a great honor to name our girl after someone who I love so much and is still alive to hear we named her after her. As you can see from the last week of snapshots, we are all in love. The tears don't seem to stop coming and we are getting lots of rest. All seems so complete in our little family. And I am truly soaking in every moment with all of them. Give me some time to be a mommy to 3 before I add classes to my schedule again. I miss you all and hope you are enjoying this spring.
With much love,
from All of Us

Spring Happenings

Hi everyone!
I am sorry for the delay in updating here. Being pregnant with my third has proven to be harder to keep up with life more so than my other pregnancies. If it is contageous, I have managed to get it. It sounds dramatic, but seriously! Flu, ear infection with ruptured ear drum and then PINK EYE??? Who gets Pink eye? The notice came home from the elementary school on a Friday, and who ends up getting it that weekend? Not my children...just pregnant me. Awesome. It was a lovely winter as you can imagine. As I am writing this, I am realizing I have less than 6 weeks before we get to meet our littlest one. 6 Weeks!? Where does the time go? We are getting excited. And the good news is, it is almost Spring, I can feel it in the air. This is the season where the flu usually leaves us and vitamin D starts filling our lives again. I have never been more excited for Spring to come...

So, enough with the drama. I am actually really attempting (and happily doing so) to hold just a few Spring workshops for the month of March. Just a few, but it is a great way to get in some work before I take my maternity leave. As my kids are getting older, I realize how hard afterschool commitments become. Workshops are a great way to go if you don't want the weekly commitment. Here is the lineup:

MARCH 2: SPRING BLOSSOMS CANVAS 1pm-4pm

Artists will each paint a 18x24 sized canvas and fill it with budding blossoming branches and little birds and nests with eggs and more. They will get to choose their own background sky and paint with a pallet knife in places to make it full of texture. If they want to add fabric elements to the canvas: bird wings, leaves on the tree etc. they are welcome to. After we paint it, paintings will be sealed for a gloss finish.
$95. unframed/ $120. framed in rustic redwood frame

MARCH 23: SPRING CENTERPIECES 1PM-4PM

Much like our Holiday centerpieces, Artists will get to choose a spring subject and make centerpieces out of them: rabbits, chickies, eggs, birds, owls, deer are just some thoughts. Each artist will get 3 cut outs of wood shaped in what they choose and they will paint them and add fabric, buttons, feathers and whatever else they want to them. After they are finished, they will be attached to wooden dowels and a base so you can put them on a table.
$95.

AND HERE IS THE CRAZY PART:
I have had so many requests for a Gargantuan Canvas Workshop, but it is hard to have them over the weekend because it is just 2 days of painting and we tried it once in the past and some of the kids felt pressure to finish in a certain amount of time. SO, I am offering a SPRING BREAK GARGANTUAN CANVAS CLASS. (It is only crazy because I am due April 7, but in the past I have taught my last class right up to my due date and both babies came after their due dates. So I am pretty confident things will work out with this class).

SO, if you want to do a big, HUGE painting, now would be the time! I don't know what my teaching schedule looks like for this summer yet, so jump in if you can.

APRIL 2-4 GARGANTUAN CANVAS 10AM-12PM
Big, huge canvas! Or 3 smaller canvases, whatever your preference is and depending on what kind of wall space you have available, this is a fantastic workshop to come to! All my kids love it!i offer it every year, and kids don't seem to tire of being able to paint huge.
$175. Here is the link from past.

All workshops are going to be held in SANTA CRUZ. I am finishing up teaching my weekly classes in APTOS this week and next. I will not be teaching weekly classes after next week. Please call or email if you have any questions or want to sign up: 831.588.5412 or kcellison@me.com Hope to see you soon!
