Handmade Trick or Treat

These are what the kids made last weekend for Halloween. And how cute are these? All designed and made by the little artists themselves (well, except for the fire engine one. I think the great pumpkin must have whipped that one up quickly while the little fireman was taking a nap).

Black Cats

Just had to show these off. This is what my little 4 year olds did this morning. I love to see them all together when we finish and we can line them all up. Someone asked me the other day if I miss having my studio, and I thought about it for a while before I responded. And yes, of course part of me will always miss what I did. It was such a great little space. But, really, I am so happy here. And the only thing I can really specifically say that I do miss today, is my windows. I loved hanging all the artwork up and looking at all the paintings (like these) all together when I drove into work everyday. And I think that's it. I love being home now and I love my small classes here.

Back To Fall Again

First rain yesterday. Hot tea, rain pouring strong, pallet knife, fall colors and Van Gogh. I love these.

Black and White.

Artists could choose which animal they wanted to sketch out from my collection of Schleich animals. They then went over with pen and ink and a little bit of goauche to blend it. It was a nice change from all the saturated color we had been working with.

New Morning Class Starting

There is a new class starting at the studio for 4-6 year olds. Offered at 9:30am-10:30am on Tuesday mornings. This class is a great way to introduce your child to a beginning art class. We will be having lots of fun in here, mixing colors, painting on big paper, collaging and drawing, and painting on their very own canvas. There are only 2 spots left, so call if interested. If I get enough interest in another class, I will be offering another one on Wednesday mornings at 9am-10am. Fee is $70. monthly and that includes all supplies. 588-5412 Hope to see you here!

And That Led Us To This...

The previous post showed how we used fabric to experiment with color and so, for the next project (considering we were all more accustomed to color now) they were able to choose what complimentary color combination they wanted to work with. There were 3 still lives to choose from and they each worked at their own pace. I think they turned out pretty lovely.

Playing With Color

At the beginning of each year, my students and I go through some color theory together. We usually do a color wheel for the first class, but this year I wanted to branch out a bit and test how they really know color. So they all got to go through my fabric stash and choose a fabric they liked and wanted to work with. They traced it onto paper and then divided their project into at least 3 spaces (more for my advanced kids). They could choose any shape they wanted to divide with, and then paint the way the fabric was originally presented to them in one space. In the second space, they had to use the complimentary colors. The third space, my younger kids painted back to the original. But my older kids, did some tricky stuff, like went clockwise/counter clockwise on the color wheel for their other spaces. All of the projects were fun to make and made us all think through how color works. Whether they were big or small, this project was great to start with. Enjoy...

Solar System

8.16 and 17th: Make Your Own Solar System 1pm-3pm
Artists will get clay to make their planets out of and then attach them to their own painted canvas. We sprinkled fine glitter on these in parts when we did this workshop a few years ago, but I don't know if you can tell. They turned out beautiful, no?

This Friday...

8.14.09: Imagine A Garden 9am-12pm

It Has Been A Great Summer So Far...

This summer has been filled with lots of private lessons, colorful workshops, wonderful children (both big and small!) and beautiful work to see come and go. I have loved having the studio here at the house and what a treat it's been to have such small class sizes. Below, you will find some of the creations we made based off of our summer workshops schedule. Thank you to all who have come to our new location. I have loved joining up with some of my oldies who are now in high school (what? and how did that even happen??) and new students who I met for the first time this summer.

"Once Upon A Time... " artists make up a story and then paint it on a canvas.
