SAT. 12/4: COOKIE CUTTER ORNAMENTS 9AM-12PM
IT’S OUR TRIED AND TRUE. WE OFFER IT EVERY YEAR, AND IT ALWAYS FILLS. EACH ARTIST WILL PAINT, WIRE AND BEAD 3 INDIVIDUAL ORNAMENTS. MADE OUT OF SALT DOUGH, AND CUT OUT OF COOKIE CUTTERS, THESE ORNAMENTS START OUT LOOKING VERY MUCH LIKE PLAIN COOKIES, AND THEN THEY GET TRANSFORMED INTO BEAUTIFUL, LITTLE MASTERPIECES WITH SO MUCH PERSONALITY, YOU WILL LOOK FOR THEM TO COME OUT EVERY YEAR SO YOU CAN HANG THEM ON YOUR TREE. WORKING WITH WATERCOLOR, OIL PASTELS, AND TEMPERA PAINTS, YOUNG ARTISTS WILL CREATE 2 VERY SPECIAL PAINTINGS. THEY WILL BE GUIDED THROUGH STEP BY STEP, AND OFFERED POINTERS ALONG THE WAY. THIS IS A CLASSIC WORKSHOP THAT WE HAVEN’T OFFERED IN A FEW YEARS, BUT WE HAVE UPDATED IT! INCLUDES ALL WOODEN FIGURES/ANIMALS AND A HANDMADE WOODEN MANGER THAT THE KIDS WILL BE ABLE TO PAINT AND DECORATE. THESE ARE GOING TO BE AMAZING! ARTISTS WILL BEGIN WITH A MANGER SCENE BACKGROUND IN THE SHAPE OF A BARN. A Sneak Peak

Well, for those of you who don't know, we have offically moved my studio! (to my backyard of all places.) So same address, but a different building. And, it's beautiful! My husband and brother-in-law gave up most all of their weekends this summer to build this space just for me (and you too!) What can I say? It's perfect and I am humbled by all the work we all put into it. Made of almost all recycled material,including windows, doors, ceiling and floor wood. It is amazing. And already a little broken in. Just how we like it around here. All of it tells a story to me. And now I am sheepishly going back to it and trying to make work myself that proves I am the least bit deserving of it. I don't know what to say about it all, really. It is what I have always wanted. A small little space in the world that was truly all mine. So, classes this year will be out of it. And I hope to see you here soon

In addition, I will be available to teach other days/times of the week for private and/or small classes. It is often the case that if you choose to do private lessons, it works just as well to do every other week (2 days per month) instead of weekly.

Private (one-on-one instruction) lesson fees: $50.00 per hour (does not include supply fee if working in large canvas, clay or mosaics)

Thank you, thank you to all my families for supporting us! It was full of beauty once again.

First Week Of Workshops...

For all you birdies out there, our "BIRDS OF A FEATHER" workshop had quite the following this year. All paintings were not only instructional, but they turned out so wonderful! Love that we were all looking through a bird guide, and painting the ones we wanted in our trees. All the birds chosen were pretty much local to our own backyards, (note: I threw a magpie into my tree since my husband is from Carolina, and I want our son to start recognizing birds back there) so I imagine it will be great fun for the kids to study their paintings after they bring them home. I was surprised to see how much the kids knew about birds in this area.This workshop actually refueled my desire to go out bird watching again! It was so fun.


And "JOIN THE CIRCUS" turned out beautiful! As you can see here, Andre loves the color blue... And why not a blue lion? (It is a circus after all).


Love Noah's attention to detail. His tent turned out awesome. It seems we have a teal horse and a pink lion at this circus...


And this one my son did. Yay! I finally get one that I get to keep. All these years of watching the most beautiful work be made here and then taken away into homes in which I will never see again...but not this one! He can't take all the credit here though. Many, many thanks to Sophie, his little art buddy who helped him keep focus while he was in his very first workshop with me. (I tihnk he was more the designer than anything else). At any rate, I can't wait to hang it up. Love the planet he added in there at the last minute. I think it might be Saturn? So funny.

7/21-23: “ME” COLLAGE ON CANVAS 9:30-11:30AM 3 DAY
ARTISTS WILL PAINT OR APPLIQUÉ WITH FABRIC A CENTER CANVAS WITH THE LETTER OF THEIR NAME AND DESIGN IT THE WAY TO THEY WISH. THEN THEY WILL DESIGN SMALLER CANVASES TO BE PLACED AROUND THE CENTER CANVAS. THESE SMALL CANVASES WILL BE PAINTED and collaged BY THE ARTIST TO DEPICT ALL THE THINGS THEY LOVE: FLOWERS, ANIMALS, FAMILY, VACATION SPOTS, PETS AND MORE. ARTISTS WILL GET TO CHOOSE WHATEVER SHAPE THEY WANT THEIR CHALKBOARD TO BE. WHETHER IT IS AN ELEPHANT, BIRD, FLOWER, ALLIGATOR…IT’S UP TO THEM! THEN THEY WILL PAINT THE SHAPE WITH CHALKBOARD PAINT, AND ATTACH FABRIC IN PLACES FOR THE EARS, OR TRIM ON ANY SMALL PLACES THEY CHOOSE. THEY WILL ALSO GET TO PAINT THEIR OWN CHALK LEDGE. PERFECT FOR IN THEIR BEDROOM, ART SPACE OR ANYWHERE YOU NEED TO HANG A PLACE FOR THEM TO DRAW.

8/3-5: BIRDHOUSE 9AM-11AM 3 DAY
USING WEATHERED WOOD AND A CORRUGATED METAL ROOF TO START, ARTISTS GET TO DESIGN AND HELP BUILD THE BASIC SHAPE OF THEIR BIRDHOUSE. THEY WILL THEN PAINT IT, AND ADD DECOPAUGUE TO IT ALONG WITH SOME ARCHITECTURAL INTEREST OF THEIR OWN PREFERENCE.

8/3-5: FABRIC AND PAINTING 2-4PM 3 DAY
MUCH LIKE OUR ANDY WARHOL WORKSHOPS IN THE PAST, ARTISTS WILL PRIMARILY BE WORKING WITH FABIC AND PAINT. EACH ARTIST WILL GET 4 CANVASES TO WORK WITH AND THEY WILL CHOOSE ONE IMAGE THEY WANT TO USE. MAYBE IT’S AN OWL, A TREE, A BIRD, A FOX…WHATEVER THEY DECIDE. WE WILL USE THAT IMAGE AND DECOPAUGUE IT ON ALL OF THE CANVASES.

USING CLAY AND A PALLET KNIFE TO ADD TEXTURE, ARTISTS WILL GET TO “BUILD” UP THEIR OWN NEIGHBORHOODS, DESIGNING THE HOMES THERE AND THE TREES THAT ARE PLANTED. MAYBE THERE IS GRASS, MAYBE THERE ARE APARTMENT BUILDINGS, WITH LAUNDRY LINES AND SWING SETS NEARBY. PERHAPS THERE ARE CATS IN THE YARDS, AND GARDENS PLANTED. THE KIDS GET TO DO SOME CITY PLANNING AND MAKE THEIR VERY OWN SPACE TO “LIVE.” GREAT FOR ALL AGES

*It is recommended and appreciated that artists bring in their own healthy snacks for all workshops they are attending.

Blue apple studios policy:
All workshops require a $50.00 deposit per workshop in order to get a space reserved. The remaining balance is due in full the first day of the workshop. All deposits are nonrefundable. If a student notifies BAS of their inability to attend 2 weeks prior to the workshop, the deposit may be transferable to another workshop. Cancellations made within the 2-week period result in a loss of deposit. There are no cash refunds. There are no make-ups for workshops. If there are less than 5 students signed up for a workshop, BAS reserves the right to cancel that workshop, in this case, your deposits may be transferable to other workshops. Please refer to the BAS policy located at the studio for more detailed information or feel free to call us. If you don’t hear from us soon after you have sent in your paperwork, it means you have gotten into the workshops you signed up for.

We are finishing up these decoupages we started a couple weeks ago. I haven't done this project for a few years now. I just love this one. I have missed seeing them. The remind me a bit of stained glass windows when you see them all hanging together.

Well Done

Gabby made this giraffe the other day in class with me. It is such a privilege to watch her work. She is so good at seeing the whole picture. I am watching her grow up right before my eyes, and even venturing out to say that I might be a trusted buddy to her. I mean, she has been with me for 5 years now. We talk on and on while she works like we are old friends catching up every week. I like to hear the latest from all my kids. Occasionally I will point out a different pencil or tip to try, you know, so it seems like I am being a good teacher and all. And really? I get paid for this? (they don't know that I would be doing this for free if I could).

Kinder Art and Pre K classes will work with: drawing skills, tempera paint, watercolor, acrylic on canvas, and oil pastel.
All other classes will work with: Pencil, pen and ink, watercolor/gouache, acrylic on canvas, perspective drawing, ceramics, collage/mixed media, techniques in color mixing, lifting, masking, Chinese painting and possibly papier mache.

In addition, I will be available to teach other days/times of the week for private and/or small classes. If you do not see a time that works for you, please call to see if we can arrange a different time. It is often the case that if you choose to do private lessons, it works just as well to do every other week (2 days per month) instead of weekly.

Private (one-on-one instruction) lesson fees: $50.00 per hour (does not include supply fee if working in large canvas, clay or mosaics)
Small Class (if you would like to get a specific small group together) fee: $50.00 for first child, $15.00 per child after that. Up to 5 kids.

Gargantuan Canvas This Week!

We are spontaneously offering a workshop at the end of this week for those of you that are not back in school (or I guess there is nothing wrong in my opinion of missing school for this workshop either!). Gargantuan Canvas Painting!! It is always a sold out (with a wait list) workshop, so if your little artist has BIG ideas, and you have the wall space to show it off, then this is a great workshop to come to. Here is the info:
Offered this Thursday and Friday. 10am-1pm Snack and all supplies included. Just show up with ideas and painting clothes. $150.

Textured canvas. So fun, so holiday, so beautiful. Something you will look forward to pulling out every year. And yes, those are real branches for their arms, but not a real carrot for their noses. We made those out of clay.
