Handmade Sign

These are some samples of the handmade sign workshop that just happened. I think they turned out great.

Variety of Flowers 2008

Variety of Flowers workshop ended today and I am so pleased with the results! All the flowers are just beautiful. I love them sitting around the studio. So colorful and bright to look at. Here are some shots of them drying outside. Jer will build frames over the weekend and then put them together inside the frame. Each artist worked on 10 canvases each.

Andy Warhol Inspiration

This is the Andy Warhol Inspired Canvas. It was so much fun to make (esp. with a 19 monther running under and over your legs while trying to do so:) But here is the idea behind the project as written up in my summer schedule this year:

6/19&20: ANDY WARHOL INSPIRED COLLAGE
9AM-12PM 2 DAY
WARHOL WAS GREAT AT PRESENTING THE SAME IMAGE OVER AND OVER BUT WITH A DIFFERENT COLOR BACKGOUND EACH TIME. IT’S THE SAME IDEA WITH THIS PROJECT, BUT WE GET TO USE FABRIC, PAINT, CANVAS AND MORE. ARTISTS WILL PICK A SIMPLE SUBJECT LIKE AN ANIMAL OR FLOWER AND ORGANIZE THEM REPETITIVELY ON DIFFERENT COLOR BACKGROUNDS. THESE WORKS WILL BE FRAMED WITH A RUSTIC REDWOOD FRAME. A STRIKING POSTMODERN PIECE TO HAVE IN YOUR HOME.
$125
Hope you can make it!

color collage

This is finally a sample of the color collage. At last I have a picture to show of what was inside my head when I was writing the schedule up. Really it is just going to be fun with color. Artists get to choose the main color of what they will work with (mine was obviously green) and they will think up images they can paint with that color (I will have a sheet of objects they can look at if needed)and then they will not only draw out those images, but then I will encourage them to draw out some other images using the complimentary color of the one they have chosen (in this case it is red for me). I will help them through understanding the color wheel as we go along. Although it may sound somewhat confusing in words, my hope is that my sample helps explain what I am trying to get at:

Oh! And I forgot to mention here about all the cool fabrics they get to work with on this project! If they are having a hard time thinking up images, there are always shapes and fabrics to use.

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles (and more!)

So this is a sample I just completed of the "planes, trains and autos" canvas project coming up. I take the kids through drawing really any mode of transportation they chhose (although I forgot a train on mine) on separate pieces of canvas or heavy paper and then they decoupage them on adding fabric, pebbles and more to get that 3D effect. I think it turned out pretty cute. Plenty of spaces left so call if interested.

Peacocks

Wow. Can't believe how long it has been since we have updated anything on here. I will be adding more photos of sample work I did for the workshops we are offering this summer. For now, I hope you enjoy these adorable peacocks as much as I do. They were done in my after school classes during the school year. This is typically what the kids end up doing in one class, they start and finish one painting. Not always animals, but I think it's pretty safe to say that these seem to be the preferred subject matter most of the time.
